Level Design / Level Object Manipulation / Editing Object-Specific Properties / Lighting Effects

When a lighting effect is selected in the Levels Window, its properties may be edited using the Properties floating window (Command-0), as described below:

Lighting Effect Name Field

Determines the name of the selected lighting effect

Location X and Y Fields

Determines the location of the selected lighting effect's top left corner

Size W and H Fields

Determines the width and height of the selected lighting effect. The lighting effect's size may also be changed by dragging its corner handles, as described in the Level Object Manipulation section.

Color Swatch

Determines the color that objects and characters are tinted when they pass into the area of the selected lighting effect

Strength Slider

Determines the intensity of the color that characters and objects are tinted when they pass into the area of the selected lighting effect

Shape Palette

Determines the shape of the selected lighting effect

Illuminates Background Checkbox

Determines whether the selected lighting effect illuminates the level background as well as foreground objects. If this box is checked, game performance may increase because the lighting system will not have to differentiate the background from the foreground objects.

More information on lighting effects is available in the Elements of a Game section.
