Using the Toolbar

Like the Window Menu, the Toolbar provides access to all of the Major Power Game Factory Windows. It also contains buttons for building and testing the current game project.



The Toolbar is usually visible whenever a game project is open. The Window Menu contains commands for positioning the Toolbar on either the top or left edge of the screen. The Window Menu also provides options for hiding and showing the Toolbar. Because each of the Toolbar's functions can be achieved through keyboard shortcuts and the menu bar, the toolbar is more of a convenience than a necessity. When the toolbar is visible and positioned along the top edge of the screen, context-specific instructions called Toolbar Tips may appear below the toolbar. Like the Toolbar itself, Toolbar Tips may be hidden or shown through the Window Menu.

The purposes of the buttons on the toolbar are explained as follows:

Levels

Displays the Levels Window, which is used to create and modify game levels and level contents.

Character Sets

Displays the Character Sets Window, which is used to edit character animation sequences, character sounds, and certain behavioral properties.
Keyboard Shortcut: Command-2

Player Sets

Displays the Player Sets Window, which is used to edit player animation sequences, player sounds, and certain behavioral properties.
Keyboard Shortcut: Command-3

Interface

Displays the Interface Window, which is used to edit the game's main menu, dialog boxes, intro cut screen, sound effects, and additional game properties.

Status Bar

Displays the Status Bar window, which is used to edit the health display, on-screen numbers, and map view, along with other status related displays and additional properties that determine their location on the screen.

Items

Displays the Items Window, which is used to edit the animation sequences and sound effects associated with the three types of items: ammo packs, weapons, and power-ups.

Weapons

Displays the Weapon Types Window, which is used to edit the properties of weapons, including their behavior, appearance when being used, status bar icons, and sound effects.

Projectiles

Displays the Projectile Types Window, which is used to edit projectile animation sequences, sound effects, and physical properties.

Miscellaneous

Displays the Miscellaneous Window, which is used to edit the animation sequences and sound effects associated with shell casings and contrails. The Miscellaneous Window is also used to select the music that is available for use throughout the game.

Test Game

Test runs the current game project file. When a game is being tested, it behaves exactly as it would if it were built into a stand-alone application.

Build Game...

Builds the current game project into a stand-alone application. The new game is saved to the selected location.
